Bruchids

Experimental ecology with Bruchidae populations has its origin in 1940s. Just after World War II Shunro Utida started his study with Bruchid populations at Kyoto University. Koichi Fujii succeeded Utida's sprit as well as stock cultures until 2001. Yukihiko Toquenaga further succeeded the sprit and stock cultures that are still maintained with those consist of more than 300 regional and experimental lines of Callosobruchus species, Zabrotes sabfasciatus, and Acanthoscelides objects.
